How we are paid

This site earns commission on some outbound links. You pay the same price either way. Here is exactly how it works.

The short version

Some links from this site to retailers are affiliate links. If you buy after following one, the retailer pays this site a commission out of its own margin. Your price does not change, and you are not charged anything extra.

What that means in practice

Affiliate links carry a tracking code that tells the retailer the visit came from here. They are marked in the page markup as sponsored links, and the box around every recommendation says so in plain words before you click.

Not every link earns anything. Some retailers run no affiliate programme at all, and picks from those retailers still appear here when they are the right answer.

What commission does not buy

No brand, retailer or PR agency can pay to appear on this site, to be named the pick, or to change what a page says. No pick has ever been arranged in advance with a brand.

Where a higher-paying option exists and a lower-paying or non-paying option is better, the better one is the pick. That is the only way a recommendation site is worth reading, and it is also the only way it survives — a site that sells its verdicts runs out of readers.

Prices and availability

Prices shown are what the pick cost at the retailer named on the day the page was written or last revised. Prices move, stock runs out, and outgoing models get discontinued. Always check the current price on the retailer's own page before buying.
